While Inter-City Baptist made a small charge, the big lead – and the fact that Allen Park never gave up on the attacking end – proved too much for the visitors on Friday night.
The Jags scored 15 unanswered points to open the game and led 42-31 after three quarters. Allen Park simply ran out of time in the fourth quarter for a 50-34 victory over Inter-City. Prior to this contest, the Inter-City girls beat Allen Park on the same court.
Junior guard Adrien Putnam had a Jags-high 20 points. Dominic Westfall had 12 points and Dalton Vance scored eight for Allen Park in the win.
Inter-City were led by Jacob Frank with 13 points and Josiah Croyts finished the night with 12 points.
The Jags flew out. Vance followed his own failure for a comeback to put Allen Park up 6-0. A triple from Westfall gave the Green and Whites a 9-0 lead and a triple from Putnam made it 12-0. After a timeout called by Inter-City, Vance hit a 3-pointer to give the home side a 15-0 lead.
Jacob Frank scored Inter-City’s first basket on a three-point play with 49 seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 15-5.
In the second quarter, another Vance hat-trick gave the Jags an 18-7 lead.
A rebound and a bucket from Jacob Frank cut the Charger’s deficit 20-9. A fine run to the basket and a face-off from Andrew Frank brought Inter-City within seven points at 22-15 as the big lead began to dwindle.
Allen Park took a 25-17 halftime lead.
The third quarter belonged to Putnam. The junior guard scored on the inside to give the Jags a 31-19 lead. Westfall hit a triple to give Allen Park a 34-19 lead. And Putnam scored three under the basket to push the Jags up to 42-28 and took a 42-31 lead in the final eight minutes of the game.
A reverse layup from Jeremy Whoolery gave Allen Park a 48-32 lead midway through the fourth quarter. A Josh Walker layup made the Jags lead 50-34.
Next up for the Jags is a home game on Tuesday, Feb. 15 against Lincoln Park. Allen Park will return home three nights later to face Wyandotte Roosevelt.
The next game on Inter-City’s schedule is Friday February 18 at Southfield Christian.
