Building in Wigan town center transformed into art gallery and emotional education center by The Scary Guy

The Scary Guy – his legal name – and his wife Cathryn Woodhall are transforming the three-story building to create the art gallery and emotional well-being centre.

Not only will it be a workspace, but also a home for the couple, as well as Cathryn’s mother, who has Parkinson’s disease.

The Scary Guy said: “It’s for humanity. As a society, we need to be more in touch with emotions and in particular learn to deal with negative experiences.

The 69-year-old Minneapolis-born motivational speaker worked with Cathryn long before they were married.

It aims to eliminate hatred, violence and prejudice around the world and has worked with schools, police forces, the military and a host of community and business organizations to promote peace.

She hired him 17 years ago after discovering his work because she saw the value in his speeches for his students at a school in Bury.

Wigan charity workers take up the Three Peaks Challenge during the heatwave

WIGAN – 26-07-22 American motivational speaker, artist and tattoo artist The Scary Guy (legal name) is renovating a three storey building in Wigan town center at 68 Market Street, Wigan where he now lives with his Wiganer wife Cathryn Woodhall, and works to open a training center for emotional education and an art gallery, he also cleans the streets and picks up litter from nearby streets daily.

In 2006 Scary invited Cathryn to work and travel with him, to help him write and develop the program based on the theories and concepts he delivered.

The couple are now working to modernize their property on Market Street – which was once home to the Age UK charity – while aiming to retain the building’s authenticity and historic value.

The front part of the building will be an art gallery, where Scary will showcase his work as well as creations by other artists. Visitors will be able to see the works and buy them from the artist.

Additionally, one-on-one personal training sessions can be booked with Scary that focus on character development.

Scary progress to improve Wigan, not just on its property but further afield, exemplified by its efforts to clean up the city center streets.

He said: ‘I saw a lot of rubbish on the streets and thought when did I go to a landfill?

“I approached some of the local waste pickers and asked for my own picker so I could start. Now I go out twice a day at 7am and 5:30pm. People really show their appreciation for my work.”
