To kick off the Downriver League season, Gibraltar Carlson hit the road Tuesday night to face Wyandotte Roosevelt.

The visiting Marauders took a big lead early on and claimed a 43-20 victory.
For Carlson (1-1, 1-0 DRL), Emma Shimizu finished with a record 18 points, including 10 in the first quarter. In addition, Elyse Miller also hit the double with 14 points.
Defensively, the Marauders limited the Bears (0-3, 0-1 DRL) to just two points in the first quarter and again in the third quarter.
Morgan Kirby led Roosevelt with five points.
Carlson managed to take a 14-2 lead after a quarter and led 26-10 at halftime and 34-12 before the final eight minutes. The big lead gave Marauders coach Kristin Fabrizio a chance to bring several players into action on the bench.
The other points for the Carlson came from Jalyn Bongiorno (5), Kaydin Fowler (4) and Kristine Piatt-Bakos (2).
Cortney Olson (4), Hannah Parish (4), Sydney Breton (4), Kylie Sparks (2) and Paige Olson (1) also scored for the Bears.
The Marauders’ next game is a Friday night home game at 6 p.m. against Dearborn Edsel Ford. Roosevelt was scheduled to play Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Riverview Gabriel Richard and will return to the Championship on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at Southgate Anderson.
