A My Little Pony experience has been launched at the National Gallery that allows visitors to transform paintings of famous horses into portraits of the characters in the show.
Visitors can transform the 10 images, including George Stubbs’ famous Whistlejacket, by scanning the QR codes on the walls next to them using an augmented reality mobile app.
The London gallery is organizing the route to coincide with the release of the new movie My Little Pony: A New Generation, released Friday on Netflix.
Artist Rachael Saunders, who created the My Little Pony illustrations for the app, told the PA News Agency: âIt was a dream come true. It is honestly the most exciting project I have participated in in my career.
“And I was always coming here as a student at the National Gallery and wondering what it would be like to have my work exhibited here and it’s just amazing to have it here in augmented reality.”
Model and TV personality Jodie Kidd lent her voice to the app, providing commentary on classic paintings and reimagined illustrations.
She said: âI am so excited to be a part of this magical initiative at the National Gallery.
âThere are so many timeless masterpieces on display at the gallery and this wonderful app does a fantastic job of making them even more accessible and entertaining.
âGive the kids a thrilling scavenger hunt to discover the characters, crystals and magical lands of My Little Pony and discover classic works of art along the way.
âI was raised around horses and loved My Little Pony from a young age, so it was a childhood dream come true providing the reviews on the app, and I can’t wait for them. visitors begin to discover Sunny, Izzy, Pipp, Zipp, Hitch and his friends hidden among the masterpieces!
The new film has a star lineup including Vanessa Hudgens, who rose to fame thanks to the High School Musical film series, Kimiko Glenn of Orange Is The New Black and James Marsden, who previously starred in Hairspray and Westworld.
Hudgens, who voices Earth Pony Sunny in the film, said, âI’ve loved My Little Pony since I was a kid.
âI can’t wait for families to enjoy and experience the new generation of My Little Pony in this unique way at one of the best attractions in the world.â
Hudgens and Marsden also provide feedback on the app.
The My Little Pony experience will run until November 1.
