OBSERVER Photo by MJ Stafford Part of a tree fell and blocked Woodrow Avenue in Dunkirk during strong winds on Saturday afternoon. On the SUNY Fredonia campus, a large tree fell on Ring Road. In addition, traffic was diverted from Central Avenue near its intersection with Waldorf Road from 5 p.m.

Winds clocked at speeds of over 60 mph in the northern county are already wreaking havoc on Saturday afternoon. In the photo above, a damaged house and vehicle on East Main Street in Fredonia, near Cleveland Avenue. This photo was taken around 3:45 p.m. from the house.

At the end of Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported wind speeds of 68 mph at Fredonia at 4 pm; 64 mph at Fredonia at 2:25 p.m.; 100 km / h in Dunkirk at 3.15 p.m. 52 mph at Ripley at 3:38 p.m.
