The Clare School selected for the National Gallery program

The National Gallery of Ireland has announced that Ennistymon Vocational School, Clare is one of three post-primary schools selected to participate in an exciting new educational initiative, Your Gallery at School.

Bringing art directly to schools across the country, this holistic outreach program marks the extension of the Gallery’s partnership with global aircraft rental company SMBC Aviation Capital. Following a call this summer, the two other post-primary schools to participate are: Coláiste Mhichíl, Limerick; and Youthreach Leixlip, Kildare.

In the fall of 2021, the Gallery will work with these three post-primary schools to create a tailor-made activity program, adapted to the age and grade level of the students. With a focus on learning through and on art, wellness and creative careers, Your Gallery at School includes individual hands-on workshops, sensory sessions, discussions and Q&A for selected schools .

The program includes Learning Through and About Art – a hands-on workshop inspired by the national collection; Well-being – a sensory session focused on slowness and mindfulness; and Creative Careers – a lecture and Q&A with gallery staff and an established artist, allowing students to learn about a variety of artistic careers.

The Gallery is committed to breaking down the barriers that prevent engagement in art in Ireland. Your gallery at school will therefore engage with young people who generally cannot visit the gallery or who may encounter obstacles in accessing culture. The Gallery will also be hosting two exclusive webinar workshops for all schools that have applied to participate in Your Gallery at School – a Creative Careers workshop for students and a Continuing Professional Development workshop for teachers.

Peter Barrett, CEO of SMBC Aviation Capital, commented: “SMBC Aviation Capital is proud to support the National Gallery of Ireland in this innovative and important program, bringing Your Gallery at School to children who are generally unable to attend. engage with the Gallery. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have on participants. “
