The National Gallery exhibits his most famous paintings outdoors

20 life-size replicas of the country’s favorite paintings will be on display in Trafalgar Square in August as part of the National Gallery’s outdoor art celebration, ‘Inside Out’, as well as a series of community art sessions free.

The works are all from the National Gallery’s collection, including paintings by Gainsborough, Caravaggio and Titian, which you can view outside in sunny London.

By “life-size” we assume that they mean they are exact 1 to 1 replicas of the original works, not that they calculated the actual size of Bacchus in Titian’s painting and enlarged the image to that she matches, so you can finally watch her mano to mano. I mean, it could be it, but it seems like a lot of effort to do.

You might be thinking, “Wait, can’t I go and see the originals right there inside the National Gallery, for free?” To which I would reply that you had better keep your heretical ideas to yourself. The National Gallery is more powerful than you can imagine and will not hesitate to silence you.

Along with the outdoor exhibit, the “Sketch on the Square” community art sessions will see 30 easels set up around Trafalgar Square, with gallery staff and artists leading classes. The sessions are free, just book here.

Everything takes place from August 3 to September 2, Trafalgar Square, for free. More details here.
