The Reel Store: Coventry opens the UK’s first immersive art gallery

Using artificial intelligence, Anadol brought to life images taken by NASA satellites and telescopes of the deepest regions of outer space.

The artist said, “Machine Memoirs: Space invites us to dream of an alternate universe where machines collaborate with humans to speculate on our existence and create an alternate future.

“It’s a hopeful future where machines and humanity, in combination, are agents of healing. A collaborative relationship with machines can give us new insights, knowledge, and the power not just to dream, but also to create a better world.

Following the huge success of interactive art exhibitions around the world, the Coventry City of Culture Trust has expressed its delight to be the first city to launch this “new way to experience the wonders of art”.

“The Reel Store is a hugely exciting undertaking, with Coventry becoming the UK’s only permanent truly immersive digital art gallery, a major draw for Coventrians and visitors alike,” said Martin Sutherland, Chief Executive of the Trust.

The innovative art exhibition will be based in a post-war building in the heart of the city, former office of the Coventry Evening Telegraph newspaper.

Sutherland continued: “We are delighted that our partners have supported the vision for this new permanent tourist attraction, transforming old media into new media, as part of the legacy of our year as the UK’s City of Culture. United.
