The event was divided into three categories – Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3-4 – and all three were competitive and exciting.
In Division 1, Woodhaven stole the show with a first-place finish of 754.66, narrowly beating Wyandotte Roosevelt (751.74) in a close race for gold. Woodhaven scored 226.80 in the first round while the Bears finished at 225.60. Roosevelt outscored Woodhaven 219.14-218.96 in the second round to cut the deficit to 1.02 points – it doesn’t come much closer than that.
Woodhaven scored 308.90 in the final round while the Bears scored 307.00.
Dearborn Edsel Ford put in an incredible performance in D1. The Thunderbirds finished with a third-place score of 712.20. Bedford was fourth (679.46) while Lincoln Park was fifth (615.64) and Taylor High was sixth (519.50).
All teams had reason to celebrate as the routines were creative and well executed in all three rounds of competition.
Speaking of good execution, the D2 competition was just as tight and impressive as the D1. Three teams scored over 730 points.
Big Blue landed first as Gibraltar Carlson scored a total of 773.56 to defeat a very strong team of Southgate Anderson (751.46) and ever formidable Divine Child (730.60).
The Marauders scored 230.70 in the first round, 228.96 in the second round and 313.90 in the third round to finish first. The Titans scored 225.70, 221.76 and 304 while the Falcons scored 223.90, 213.30 and 293.40.
Trenton placed fourth with 673.34 points (211.10, 187.04, 275.20) and Melvindale was fifth with 582.30 points (188.90, 160.10, 241.30).
There were only three teams in D3-4 but it was still a very close race to the top. Less than 12 points separated the three teams. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep took first place with 749.08 points while Grosse Ile was second (739.08) and Flat Rock was third (738.76).
